Are video games good for your brain or development?

Video games are generally considered to have a positive impact on a person’s cognitive, strategic, and problem-solving abilities. Since gaming is developed to reach a specific objective, it requires gamers to process fast and critical thinking, and action-taking abilities. Thus, it helps in the development of the human mind to a certain limit. According to a study gammers outperformed nongamers in cognitive tasks.

On the other hand, excessive gaming can hurt both the physical and mental health of a person. Longer exposure to the screen can cause eye strain and dry eyes. This can lead to headaches, vision problems, and contribute to myopia (nearsightedness) at an early age. Other issues are also associated, such as declining academic performance, emotional numbing, dehydration, lack of motivation, and even relationship issues can occur. Like all other activities, gaming should be done in moderation. An hour a day or even 3 hours on weekends is fine for most of us.
